How do you usually make coffee at home?

Pour Over Filter - V60 / Chemex
Coffee Maker
French Press
Chemex
Aeropress
Cold Brew
Espresso Machine
Moka Pot
Refillable Pods

Why it matters

Certain coffee-making methods are especially good for certain coffees. We start with this question to make sure the coffee we recommend will taste great with your current coffee routine. Whether you use a french press, coffee pot, or espresso machine, knowing which coffee maker you have helps us determine what would taste best.

Do you use Keurig, Nespresso, or other types of pods?

If you use refillable pods that work with ground coffee, we can set you up with a great match for your taste preferences. If you only buy prepackaged pods, please keep in mind that none of our roasters offer their coffee this way. If you're ready to give freshly roasted coffee a try, contact us to chat with a member of our ground support team and find out the best way to switch today..

What is your coffee experience level?

I'm pretty new to all of this

I'd like to start with something approachable and easy to love.

I'm at an intermediate stage

I buy premium coffee from the grocery store and I know a little about roast levels.

I'm pretty advanced

I buy coffee from specialty roasters and I know the difference between blends and single origin.

I'm a total coffee nerd

I know my Caturra from my Bourbon and cupping is my favorite hobby.

Why it matters

Great coffee is a (delicious) journey and we want to make suggestions that are best suited to wherever you are on yours. We ask for your experience level first because your following answers can be interpreted very differently depending on how you identify.

Do you add anything to your coffee?

Nope, I take it black

Milk or Cream

A mix of these choices

Flavored Creamer or Syrups

Non-Dairy Milk

Sugar or sweetener

Why it matters

Some coffees can be enhanced by milk, but others may react negatively and result in an unpleasant taste. A little sugar, sweetener or added flavorings can bring out the natural sweetness of some coffees, but overpower others. We'll recommend coffee that works best with what you like.

What's your favourite roast?

Light Roast

More acidic & expressive of the coffee's original flavors

Medium Roast

Just a hint of roasty flavor beginning to come through

Dark Roast

Some oil on the bean with deep, caramelized smokiness

I defer to you

We'll make a pick based on your other responses

How do you like your coffee to taste?

Classic and traditional

Let's talk about taste

Taste is a subjective thing. And while none of the coffees on Trade contain any added flavors or ingredients (just 100% coffee!) they can taste totally different based on where they're from, how they're processed and how they're roasted.

Classic coffees are all about the familiar, nostalgic idea of coffee — only better! These coffees are balanced, rich and easy to drink.

Coffees with a hint of something different still deliver that great, traditional coffee taste, but with a whisper of something less expected.

Surprising and unconventional coffees are usually lighter roasted single origins that preserve more of the original taste of the coffee fruit . Often much higher in acid or processed in ways that emphasize the taste of the fruit itself.

Do you buy ground coffee, whole bean coffee, or both?

Whole Bean

I like coffee that tastes like coffee

Ground

But nothing too crazy

Both

Take me on an adventure

Why it matters

We try to offer ground to order coffee from as many roasters as possible. If ground is your thing we'll make sure we don't recommend a coffee that's only available as whole bean.

Seriously though

If you want to make a damn fine cup of coffee, start with whole bean and grind it at home with a nice burr grinder. It's actually pretty easy and the results are totally worth it. Get started with home grinding or chat with a coffee expert.

What type of coffee do you drink?

Regular

I'd like to only receive regular coffee matches.

Decaf

I'd like to only receive decaf coffee matches.
