About The Coffee

This coffee comes from Muje Mesina washing station in East Guji. It’s operated by Primrose Coffee, a family-run exporter working with nearly 2,000 smallholder farmers in the area, whose farms (sitting between 1,950–2,050 MASL) surround the village of Muje — a thriving coffee-growing community. Tropical and juicy, this coffee is the ultimate summer thirst-quencher.

Husband-and-wife duo, Abreham Mengiste and Meseret Workneh, founded Primrose in 2010 after decades of experience working in coffee. They now have a team of 60 permanent employees and operate eight washing stations in Yirgacheffe and Guji, where they work with over 2,000 farmers.

Muje Mesina spans 3 hectares and has 200 shaded drying beds. According to Primrose, producers are paid immediately upon delivery of their cherries (above-market prices). Primrose then pays post-harvest premiums at the end of the year based on cherry quality and quantity. Primrose has also implemented initiatives to improve the livelihoods of local coffee producers and their families, including building two wells to provide clean, safe drinking water.

Conscious

We are Culainn and Lea, the team behind Conscious. We began our journey into coffee in South America, building relationships with a small number of producers, with whom we work today.

To be conscious is to be aware, self-reflective and to make considered choices. Through being conscious we work to deliver the best coffee for everyone. Practically, we do this by working closely with our partners at every stage of the production of coffee, from farm to cup, constantly learning, teaching and sharing. In this way, Conscious aims to be an agent for progress, and for strengthening connections between people in a complex and messy world.

We roast coffee to produce aromas and flavours that celebrate the innate properties of the beans and the work that went into their production. We start by understanding the physical properties and unique precursors of flavour of each coffee lot. We then meticulously plan and fine-tune every roast to develop these flavours. Through continuous testing and iteration we strive for perfection.
