This Microlot is the product of four different families of the Indigenous Nasa ethnic group (Páez) within the region of Cauca, Colombia, who are members of Bailies long-standing partners; Comepcafe cooperative - our very first Direct Trade relationship which began over five years ago. 

Pueblo Nuevo, is an Indigenous reservation located in the municipality of Caldono Cauca, Colombia. This is a somewhat "new" region with regards to coffee production, due to where it is situated within the upper part of the western foothills of the Central Andean Mountain Range - understandably a difficult place to farm.

However, current prevalence of a medium to cold climate in this mountainous area lends itself well to the production of high quality arabica coffees. The steep topography of the mountains, whose volcanic soils are clay based and acidic due to their high content of organic matter.

Production is established under the shading of native trees and other crops such as; corn, yuca and plantains. The use of agro-inputs such as fertilisers are used in low quantities, and are primarily of natural origin. The established varieties are of this region are of the Castillo, Colombia and Caturra.

A high-altitude coffee such as this, processed as a washed coffee allows for the flavour profile that highlights the characteristics typical for a coffee of this origin and region. These characteristic traits of a washed Colombian from Cauca stand out in the cup- a profile that has notes both sweet and spicy with plenty of acidity.
