About The Coffee

Our resident Naturally Processed blend. Ideal for those who like their daily cup packed with ripe fruity flavours.

Featuring a seasonal selection of the most unique coffees from our favourite producers around the world, Jazzy Max works well for filter brewing and for those who like a fruity espresso.

Jazzy Max currently features coffees produced in Honduras & Uganda, creating a blend that showcases the best of each origin. We're talking strawberry, mango and honeysuckle tasting notes.

---

The first component is sourced from Honduras, delivering the perfect “Jazzy” fruitiness and vibrancy. Varieties such as Catimor, Catuai, Paraneima and Maragogype bring fruity flavours of ripe orchard fruits, with very sweet notes of milk chocolate and a honey aftertaste.

This lot comes from the COMSA (Cafe Organico Marcala) co-operative based in the west of Honduras. It’s the collective of farmers from around Marcala, La Paz.

COMSA started out in 2001 with 69 farmers, with the aim to improve their community's coffee and livelihoods through organic and sustainable farming. They now represent over 1,200 members (400 of which are female producers). In 2005, COMSA became Fairtrade certified, so the coffee produced is now 100% Fairtrade and Organic.

The Cooperative provides in-depth training in many areas, including water management, organic farming regeneration, soil analysis and wildlife conservation.

One of the coffee farmers contributing to this lot is Dilcia Bautista from La Colmena (The Beehive) farm. The farm is 6.3 hectares, but only 3.5 hectares is used for coffee. A lot of the farm is kept for wildlife; she has 25 beehives and dozens more carpenter bees, as well as a garden of red flowers she keeps just for the hummingbirds. Dilcia also keeps goats, chickens, and turkeys on the farm, which all produce organic fertiliser. Diversification has been a big part of staying in business.

The second component comes from another country with unique geographical features - this is a Ugandan natural coffee, called Bukonzo Dream, from the Rwenzori Mountains.

The production of this coffee was assisted by Agri Evolve, a washing station founded in 2016. With a focus on staff empowerment and education, Agri Evolve has managed to build a team of over 80 skilled workers sourcing and processing coffee from thousands of farmers across the Rwenzori mountains.

Purchasing coffee as a freshly picked, ripe cherry directly from farmers, and processing it at the washing station in Kisinga, enables Agri Evolve to control the variables and create ‘Bukonzo Dream’.

The name is derived from The Bakonzo Tribe, a group of descendants living throughout the Rwenzori Mountains, covering both Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo. Individuals do not necessarily identify as citizens of either country, but rather proudly claim their Bakonzo heritage.

That spirit, combined with Agri Evolve’s dream to connect their coffees and community with roasters and cafes, is where the name was born. Their focus is on controlling the natural processing of cherries while paying special attention to controlling quality, giving, as a result, intense flavours of red fruits such as strawberry and raspberry with a touch of tropical fruit juiciness. With its syrupy body, this lot creates a great component to Jazzy Max.

The combination of Uganda & Honduras makes for a super bright and juicy blend. The cup is full of vibrant fruit flavours with a sweet syrupy body, intense floral aroma and nectar aftertaste. Enjoy!

Perky Blenders

At Perky Blenders, we like to think of ourselves as one big family. That’s because family is in the very foundations of our business: we were family-formed back in 2015 by husband and wife duo Adam and Victoria Cozens.Even back then, operating as a humble little coffee cart outside St James’ Street station, we had the same aims as we do now: to be responsible, friendly and accessible to all.

It’s still us here. Hello. And though we’ve since stretched our latte-fuelled legs beyond that converted three-wheeled Piaggio Ape, we’re the same coffee up-and-comers waxing lyrical about single origin beans to the good people of Waltham Forest.A few years on, we now have three shops within the borough, and supply to over 60 stores – including Whole Foods, The Conran Shop, Anthropology, and the award-winning Eat17 Spar shops.

In the last few years, we’ve been featured in the Indy Best’s ‘Best Coffee Subscription Services,’ and have won two Time Out Awards as the ‘Best Coffee Place’ within three London Postcodes. And we’ve opened our second roastery, with a state-of-the-art 20kg Petrocini Specialty Roaster that we’re pretty proud of, and plenty more space to swing cats/coffee sacks.Coffee can sometimes be a secretive, snobbish industry – but we want to change that perception. So whether you’re a V60 veteran or you’re just taking your first baby(chino) steps in learning how to brew, you’re welcome in the Perky family.
