THE PRODUCER
This coffee is produced by the Kundwa Women’s Coffee group, part of the Abateraninkunga Ba Sholi co-operative in Rwanda’s Muhanga District. The co-operative was founded in 2008 by a small group of women seeking economic independence and greater representation within the local coffee industry. Built on the principle of mutual support, the group has grown to include hundreds of members, with women playing a central role in cultivation, processing, and quality control.
Through their work, the co-operative has invested in community development projects including education, healthcare, and food security. The Kundwa group represents a continued effort to create opportunity and stability through coffee, producing lots that are both high quality and socially impactful.
THE COFFEE
Grown at high altitude and processed with precision, this coffee showcases the clarity and sweetness that define Rwanda’s best natural lots. A light-medium roast highlights its vibrant character, bringing forward tropical fruit notes and layered sweetness while maintaining structure and balance.
THE REGION
Muhanga District lies within Rwanda’s central highlands, an area known for its rolling hills, fertile soils, and ideal conditions for Arabica cultivation. High altitude and consistent climate contribute to slow cherry development, resulting in dense beans with pronounced acidity and complexity. The region has become known for producing clean, expressive coffees with bright fruit profiles.
THE PROCESS
The coffee cherries are dried naturally, with the fruit left intact around the bean to develop flavour complexity. This careful handling enhances the sweetness, body, and fruit character in the cup, highlighting the distinctive profile of the region.
IN THE CUP
A bright and expressive cup with pronounced sweetness and clarity. Notes of pineapple lead, followed by rich butterscotch and a soft plum finish. The body is light to medium, with a clean structure and a balanced, lingering sweetness.
SPOTLIGHT LIMITED ROAST
Our spotlight, limited roast coffees are all ethically sourced from the best coffee farms and wash houses around the world. These small-batch or microlot coffees are from smaller harvests, which can not be farmed year-round. We find these rare and excellent coffees and lovingly hand roast them in small batches using our 5KG roasters, roasting daily to order for the freshest coffee possible. Due to their rareness and popularity, many of our spotlight coffees are restricted to 3 or 4 sacks only, meaning we're only able to roast 150-200KG of artisan coffee per release.
