Farmhouse, our importing partner, works very closely with around 200 small-hold farmers in Sul de Minas, Brazil, where the hot and humid climate is perfect for growing coffee. The aim is to improve the quality of the green beans so the farmers can access the specialty coffee markets around the world and therefore get paid better for their beans. This particlar lot is from the farm Fazenda Quilombo and produced by Flavio Jose Spineli. He’s a fourth generation coffee farmer and has been learning from his family from a young age. Flavio has also been the director at the local co-operative for eight years, so he has had a critical role in coffee development in the region. 

Peña Roja is located in the Huehuetenango muncipality of the western highlands of Guatemala, running up to the border of Mexico. Coffee on the Cooperativa Agricola Integral Peña Roja‘s 81 smallholders’ farms is picked by hand, washed, and dried under the sun on patios on the roofs of houses perching the slopes and hillsides. 

Expect tasting notes of chocolate cookie, caramel, and almond brittle.
