About The Coffee

What’s brewing this month?

From China, we welcome this delightful Coffee of the Month - PADAH LIN!

This cup is bursting with flavours of Clementine, Coconut & Lychee, and makes for a wonderful filter coffee or luxurious espresso.

More about the coffee:

For the fifth year in a row, we are pleased to offer one of our most sought-after coffees - arabica coffee from Asia, sourced from our friends from Indochina Coffee. Why not celebrate Lunar New Year 2025 with our exclusive coffee from Myanmar!

Coffee production in Myanmar has a history that extends back to the late 19th century. In the early years of coffee cultivation, Myanmar's production primarily focused on lower-grade coffee beans, which were largely destined for export markets.

This focus on quantity over quality persisted for many decades. However, a notable shift began to emerge in the mid-2010s. Myanmar's coffee industry started to pivot towards the production of high-quality specialty coffee.

This transformation was driven by a confluence of factors, including growing domestic demand for premium coffee, increasing recognition of Myanmar's unique coffee-growing terroirs, and a concerted effort by local farmers and industry stakeholders to improve cultivation and processing practices.

As a result of this shift, Myanmar's coffee has started to gain recognition in the global specialty coffee market, opening up new opportunities for the country's coffee producers and exporters.

“Mandalay Coffee Group” was established in 2014 and is owned and operated by citizens of Myanmar, many of whom have been involved in the coffee industry for over 30 years. Padah Lin coffee consists of combined daily lots grown by predominantly Danu and some Pa-O hill - tribe smallholder farmers across 16 villages in the remote
mountainous area of Ywangan, southern Shan state of Myanmar.

The Ywangan area sits at an elevation of around 1,200-1,600 meters above sea level, providing ideal conditions for growing high-quality coffee. Fertile, volcanic soil contributes to the distinct taste, as does the cool and temperate climate.

The group works with smallholder farmers across Ywangan, each of whom cultivates approximately 0.25-3 acres of land, with coffee plants intercropped with a variety of produce such as avocados, jackfruit, papaya, macadamia and djenkol beans. This diverse planting strategy offers multiple benefits.

The variety of trees acts as a natural barrier against the spread of coffee leaf rust, a common fungal disease that can severely impact yields. Additionally, the trees provide essential shade, benefiting both the coffee plants, which thrive in shaded conditions, and the farmers' families, who appreciate the respite from the tropical sun around their homes.

In general, Ywangan coffee production is typical by its smooth, sweet flavour profile with notes of chocolate, citrus and floral notes and is the case of Padah Lin: processed by traditional washed method bringing up a clean and bright cup.

The light-bodied brew is full of citrus notes such as mandarine, satsuma and clementine with honey and milk chocolate/coconut sweetness. The aroma brings subtle florals such as lychee, jasmine with green tea aftertaste.

Simply, celebrate the Lunar New Year with an elegant Myanmar coffee experience.

Perky Blenders

At Perky Blenders, we like to think of ourselves as one big family. That’s because family is in the very foundations of our business: we were family-formed back in 2015 by husband and wife duo Adam and Victoria Cozens.Even back then, operating as a humble little coffee cart outside St James’ Street station, we had the same aims as we do now: to be responsible, friendly and accessible to all.

It’s still us here. Hello. And though we’ve since stretched our latte-fuelled legs beyond that converted three-wheeled Piaggio Ape, we’re the same coffee up-and-comers waxing lyrical about single origin beans to the good people of Waltham Forest.A few years on, we now have three shops within the borough, and supply to over 60 stores – including Whole Foods, The Conran Shop, Anthropology, and the award-winning Eat17 Spar shops.

In the last few years, we’ve been featured in the Indy Best’s ‘Best Coffee Subscription Services,’ and have won two Time Out Awards as the ‘Best Coffee Place’ within three London Postcodes. And we’ve opened our second roastery, with a state-of-the-art 20kg Petrocini Specialty Roaster that we’re pretty proud of, and plenty more space to swing cats/coffee sacks.Coffee can sometimes be a secretive, snobbish industry – but we want to change that perception. So whether you’re a V60 veteran or you’re just taking your first baby(chino) steps in learning how to brew, you’re welcome in the Perky family.
