We sourced this delightful natural coffee through South India Coffee Company (SICC), founded in 2017 by husband and wife duo Akshay Dashrath and Komal Sable.

As fifth-generation coffee producers from Coorg, one of India's oldest coffee-growing regions, they established SICC to create a collaborative supply chain focused on sustainably produced Indian specialty coffee, with a global reach.

Bisal Munti Farm, a family-owned coffee estate, is nestled at an elevation of 650 meters in the enchanting region of Malavalli, Karnataka.This idyllic farm employs a distinctive agroforestry system, where coffee plants flourish under the protective cover of Areca nut and pepper vines, creating a symbiotic canopy that elevates the coffee's quality.

At the heart of their sustainable farming practices, Bisal Munti Farm harnesses the power of Jeevamrutha, a potent bio-fertiliser concocted from organic materials. This natural elixir nourishes the coffee plants, promoting robust growth without the need for synthetic chemicals. 

Additionally, the farm utilises weed mats to control weed growth, preserving the soil's health and optimising crop yield.

This coffee variety is called “chandragiri”. It’s a semi-dwarf variety of Arabica coffee developed from a cross between Villa Sarchi and Hibrido de Timor, released for cultivation in India in 2007.

The Chandragiri coffee bean is larger than other Arabica beans, and the plants produce loose clusters of berries that are easy to harvest.

This coffee was processed by traditional natural processing method. Put simply, this  means drying coffee cherries whole, without the intervention of water or machines to remove any of the fruit. Prior to drying, the cherries are picked, floated in water, and sorted to remove any under-ripe or overripe fruit.

The time invested allows the beans to absorb flavours and natural sugars from the fruit, and showcases a bright, vibrant, and fruity cup. We've lightly roasted this coffee to accentuate its best features - the result is a balanced brew with mellow, citrusy acidity, a smooth & creamy milk chocolate finish and a bright aftertaste of forest berries
