About The Coffee

Meet Jhon Carlos, a second generation coffee farmer that took over El Guayabo farm seven years ago from his father, who originally purchased the land thirty years prior. Jhon’s father, with an incredible amount of effort and fastidious hard work, laid the groundwork for his son to take over a humble, but successful legacy.

From a young age Jhon grew up experiencing his parents working the land, and learned how to value the countryside, hard work and more importantly, perseverance. He learned first hand how to cultivate coffee, how to love and tender it and thanks to that his passion for coffee was born… and flourished. With that learning, and the dream of supporting his parents, Jhon found further success with his own projects and began planting three hectares of coffee. Over the years since they have implemented regenerative and sustainable practises that care for their terroir, cultivating the soils, vastly improving water management and taking additional care in strengthening the production of higher-quality coffee beans.

Jhon’s dream is to grow El Guayabo even further, beginning with an additional hectare of coffee and in the longterm leaving an even stronger legacy for future generations.

With this Castillo variety, the coffee was left to ripen on the plant to select the ripest and best quality beans. After harvesting the beans were left for 24 hours in burlap sacks, ground and left to ferment in the processing plant for another 24 hours. It was then washed with water to be moved to dry.

Since opening in 2008, Nude Coffee Roasters has been at the forefront of the speciality coffee movement that has swept into the UK from Australia and New Zealand.

Based in Shoreditch, we have been greatly influential in the integration of these wonderful developments to the East London community.

Nude has been roasting ever since and opened a new state of the art coffee roastery in 2014, which included the installation of a Loring Smart Roast, the most technically advanced and eco-friendly roaster on the market. Through eliminating the need for an afterburner, this beautiful machine is able to reduce energy consumption by up to 80%, making it the most ecologically friendly roaster on the planet. The Roastery is located opposite our flagship café on Hanbury Street.

Working closely with farmers across many countries is something that is integral to Nude’s success. When it is not possible to buy direct, coffee is sourced through experienced green bean buyers; these companies are aware of the social and environmental issues in the areas they work. As coffee is a seasonal product, we rotate our selection to make sure you're only getting the freshest beans possible. Coffee is roasted with transparency in mind, we prefer the quality to speak for itself and strive to accentuate its inherent flavours.

We’ve been making everything on site since day one, and continue to work with local suppliers in our drive for quality.
