WHY?

At 1,820 MASL, Kahondo station sits at the highest altitude of all the Virunga washing stations. Established in 2012, it is located in the Isale region of North Kivu, right on the edge of Virunga National Park, close to the Uganda border.

The region has excellent conditions for speciality arabica production with plentiful rainfall, high altitude and highly fertile volcanic soils. The region is also very poverty-stricken and has had a severe lack of infrastructure which has made high-quality arabica both difficult to produce and very challenging to export. Virunga Co ee Company has sought to overcome many of these problems through hands-on farmer education and investment in local infrastructure such as roads and bridges. This has allowed quality improvements every season and, in turn, higher premiums for farmers.

We roast all of our coffee beans in small batches - we want to make sure you get the best beans for your brew. This means we're roasting Monday to Friday so your caffeine delivery will contain coffee that is freshly roasted and ready to enjoy!

Lost Sheep

In 2011 we quit our careers working the 9-5 to spend a year backpacking across the world! When we arrived in Melbourne, Australia we discovered Aussie style coffee and we knew instantly that we had to bring this style of coffee back to the UK. We didn’t realise it at the time but at that moment, Lost Sheep Coffee was born.

Sourcing the finest, fully traceable beans from around the globe, ensuring that each one tells a unique story. We work hard to source these beans ourselves directly where possible from the family farms.

All the coffee farmers we work with are paid fairly and up to four times more than standard Fair Trade coffee prices. We can trace all our coffees right back to the fields/towns they were grown in.

Our beans are carefully precision-roasted in small batches at our dedicated speciality coffee roastery in Whitstable, Kent, where every step is executed with love, care, and attention.
