About The Coffee

High in Burundi’s Kayanza Province, the Ninga community cultivates coffee with patience and purpose. Managed by Epaphras Ndikumana and quality-controlled by Seth Nduwayo, the Ninga site forms part of Long Miles Coffee, a project dedicated to connecting farming families with roasters who value traceable, exceptional coffee.

Ninga’s washing station draws fresh water from its own borehole, providing clean water not only for processing but also for the local community. Here, only sundried natural coffees are produced — cherries are hand-sorted, floated, and then dried slowly on raised tables for up to thirty days. The result is a deep, fruit-forward expression of Burundi’s terroir.

Every cherry delivered is logged through the Long Miles farmer card system, ensuring transparency and traceability right down to the hill where it was grown. It’s a symbol of respect — for the farmers’ hard work, for the land, and for the cup that follows.

Born from years of perseverance, Ninga represents more than a washing station; it’s the outcome of a vision that began in 2013 with Long Miles’ first site, Bukeye. Farmers once walked for hours to deliver their harvest to a station that offered fair scales and fair pay. Now, Ninga stands closer to home — a sign of progress, collaboration, and belief in Burundi’s future through coffee.

He believes being a coffee roaster is so much more than simply bringing our customers fresh seasonal coffee.Mike’s retail background taught him the importance of product, place and people. Mike passionately believes that speciality coffee and the people who work in it are incredible and that great coffee and the stories behind it deserve to be shared.
