COUNTRY: Kenya
REGION: Nyeri County, Mukurwe-ini District
PRODUCERS: Rumukia Farmer’s Co-operative Society (212 women, 248 men)
VARIETY: SL14, SL28
ALTITUDE: 1600-2300 masl
PROCESS: Washed

Nestled in the highlands of Nyeri County, between the Aberdare Range and Mt. Kenya, the Tambaya Wet Mill processes coffee grown in one of Kenya’s most fertile regions. The area’s cool temperatures, rich soils, and seasonal rainfall provide the ideal conditions for cultivating exceptional coffee.

Managed by the Rumukia Farmer’s Co-operative Society, this mill serves 460 farmers who oversee 115,000 coffee trees, interplanted with native species to support local agroforestry and biodiversity. Using water from the Gura River, the Tambaya Wet Mill utilizes precise washed processing methods that enhance the region’s hallmark vibrant acidity and complex flavor profiles.

Tasting Notes:
This coffee bursts with bright notes of lime and tartness, balanced by rich undertones of dark chocolate and the sweetness of sticky dates. Its full body and vibrant acidity make it a standout for both espresso and filter brewing.

Savor the unique terroir of Nyeri County, where slow-maturing, high-altitude coffee beans deliver an unforgettable cup with every brew.

Why You'll Love It:
The cool nighttime temperatures at Nyeri’s high altitudes slow the coffee cherries' maturation, resulting in dense, flavorful beans. This climate, paired with expert processing at the Tambaya Wet Mill, delivers a complex and vibrant coffee experience.

Perfect for both filter and espresso, this coffee invites you to savor the unique terroir of Kenya’s central highlands with every sip.

The Milk Shed

What’s in a name?

Well, quite a lot as it turns out. The building now known as The Milk Shed was once a dairy serving Brighton’s Royal Pavilion back in the 1800’s. Fast forward a couple hundred years and King George’s old dairy is now a centre of coffee roasting excellence with some of the city’s finest coffee experts gathered under one roof. Our team has decades of knowledge and experience in this industry, and strive to deliver our guests and wholesale partners consistently great coffee.

Quality counts

We put effort into sourcing high quality lots of coffee in an impactful way. Working with importing partners who have great on-the-ground relationships with producers and exporters at origin, as well as foregrounding sustainable livelihoods for producers alongside transparency, tracability, and environmental impact is important to us. We roast our coffees carefully using roast profiling software to ensure we're on track and delivering consistently great results batch after batch.

Not costing the earth

As much as we love to roast coffee we don’t want to harm the planet while we do it, and that’s why we signed up for 1% for the Planet. Globally, only 3% of philanthropic giving goes to environmental causes and that’s why 1% for the planet was established. It aims to encourage businesses like ours to donate a minimum of 1% of their gross sales to help environmental non-profits. This, as well as being committed to working with responsibly sourced coffees and environmentally sound packaging is our way of doing our bit for the planet whilst still delivering great tasting coffee. By working with importing partners we trust we can utilise our purchasing power in a way that has a positive impact on producer livelihoods and our shared environment.
